Happy 2013 wherever you are in the world!
Is 13 a good or a bad luck number?
Some argue that 13 is a bad luck number. Why people think so, no one knows for sure. If something bad happens on the 13th (especially if it is a Friday), it immediately rings a bell that it was the bad luck number of that date that caused the misfortune. My youngest daughter just learned to count and while she was counting the number of floors on the elevator she went on like this…10, 11, 12, 14, 15 huh? How am I supposed to explain to a three year-old that they made a mistake when they erased the whole 13th floor?
On the other hand I would argue that 13 is in fact a good luck number. Here is why:
We have always had a calendar with 12 months and each month is a mess, some are 30 days long, some are 31 days long, and February is even cut short to 28 days only.
If instead we have 13 months of 28 days each we will have 364 days in a year to work with and one extra day to celebrate. In total 365 days. Well every four years we can afford to have 2 days to celebrate instead of one, right?
So, this way each month would start on a Monday, and would end on a Sunday. Each month would have 4 weeks in total. Everything would be so easy to calculate and remember. Why did we make our life so complicated? Another thing in favour of 13. Jesus had 12 disciples and so in total there were 13 people.
Lately it is believed that there is an extra zodiac sign as well. So there are not 12 but 13 zodiac signs.
So, why are we forcing ourselves into accepting 12 as a good omen just because it is an even number instead of 13? 13 is a prime number, which means it cannot be divided by any other number. Prime numbers are a mystery on their own, and in many occasions seem to be God’s favourites.
I wish 2013 is a good luck year for all of you. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this subject.
